Not to forget, it was the most diverse cultural metropolis all through the 20ies. There were too many world renowned artists to mention. Architecture was at an all time high, the Bauhaus style only the most famous of many. Theatre, cabaret and film set world standards. Holliwood in the 30ies, 40ies and 50ies was largely influenced by the German style of the time before Hitler, since many of it's leading figures emigrated to the USA and continued their careers there.
Hitler's reign wasn't only the darkest period in German - and Austrian - history. It was also the triumph of the primitives over the cultural elites.
