Same with the chat - you are merely a facilitator.Whilst I have agreed that the forums are mine only on paper, the same cannot be said for the chatroom. I have kept the two distinctly separate for the very simple reason that the forums are under our total control (on a server the community pay for), whilst the chatroom is not, as it is hosted by dal.net. As such, we cannot impose the same level of moderation as we do on the forums, since not all members of the forums are registered in the chat, and people can easily pose as other people in the chatroom. Thus, the chatroom is my personal chatroom, no rules of the forum apply there, and I get the final say. I am usually the only one of the admin who even spends time there (apart from theVOID who occasionally pops in), so it doesn't affect the forums in the slightest.
Quote:Your decisions as admin have an effect on the community. You never act with only your own interests in mind, but those of the community as a whole. It is therefore absolutely relevant to compare it to governing styles, as you also take the role of self installed dictator. We're not talking about the liberty of one individual alone, but the liberty of those who are part of your community.Yup, and the community of the chatroom is completely different to the community of the forums. The forums are community run, and as such I have not banned you from them, even though you've said far more in the forums about me than you have in the chat room. Whilst you may think of me as a dictator in the chat room, I am certainly not one in the forums; we have 4 admin of equal rank, and a large staff team backing them up. The members can challenge a ruling at any time, and even recently some of their actions made us reverse a ban. Hardly a dictatorship.
Quote:Every person should be open to the opinions of others without feeling it necessary to shut them down. I take on people's opinions of me, because that's the healthy thing to do. Only elitist dictators don't listen.I take on people's opinions of me as well; it just so happened that your opinions of me were based on a bunch of loosely assembled assumptions about my life; none of which were true. I could easily make some educated guesses about the kind of life you live fr0d0, but I wouldn't dare suggest you fell into some sort of category when (a) I don't know all the facts, and (b) it isn't any of my business.
Quote:Your current financial position has no bearing on this. To be accused of a suburban attitude is about your upbringing, which I'm assuming to be reasonably well off, from what you've said.Again, you are assuming, and you are assuming wrong.
Quote:Being a student is a choice. It's a temporary position which is usually undertaken with the view of vast remuneration at a later date, which is why the payback system was introduced. You've said your paying for your masters with your own saving... again... lucky you to have savings! I worked and saved as a student myself.Yes, I had some savings; I think you'll find a lot of the lower middle class have savings, but that does not automatically make them rich. You are grasping at straws here, trying to paint a picture of something that I am not.
Quote:I am sincerely sorry to have offended you by stating an untruth Adrian. So far I have no evidence to indicate this. If you want to take that to PM, feel free.Great, a non-apology; just a heads up, but saying you are "sincerely sorry" about something you've done and then following it up by saying you didn't isn't the way one usually apologises and expects to be forgiven.
Take a leaf out of your own book for once; you claim to take on other people's opinions of you. Look back at what you've accused me of being, and see if you have any evidence at all to back it up.
