I saw my mom today and talked to her a bit about Bernie Sanders. I literally copy pasted the thread I wrote in the OP here to her in an email, and that 13 minutes of Hilary lying video. She says that a lot of it is probably just taken out of context and she didn't comment much on Bernie's democratic socialism, even after I explained to her what it was and when she said previously that she believes that capitalism is necessary for people to be motivated to work, which is why I was trying to explain to her that democratic socialism is still capitalism.
There's a lot of stuff I try to explain to people, but they just have no desire to listen. As I was trying to bring this up with my mom she started trying to talk over me numerous times, trying extremely hard to just change the subject. If it was just some friend then yeah I would have changed the subject immediately as I sensed some aversion to the topic, but it was my mom so I figured I'd try to press her on this issue a bit, it's a safe move for me.
Point is, there's a lot of people who just aren't open minded, don't really want to get bogged down by facts or opposing opinions. I tried to tell her that yeah, I do hear a lot of negative opinions about Bernie and Hilary, but the ones about Bernie just aren't factual because the people criticizing him don't even know what democratic socialism is, while you can see Hilary blatantly contradicting herself, which is why I urged my mom to watch that 13 minutes of Hilary Clinton lying video, just so she could get an idea.
This was all while being talked over, her trying hard to change the subject and make me forget what I was talking about. I noticed that seems to be a tactic with people who are either in a serious argument or just don't want to argue, they'll try to change the subject to something else or bring something up that's not even related to make you forget what you were saying and throw you off track. With her though I just think she's not interested in politics. She voted for Hilary anyways, she's one of those people that says you have to vote for Hilary so we can beat Trump.
If I only have these two options of Trump and Hilary, yeah I'm not voting. It's ridiculous that we only have two horrible options, then whoever gets into office will just get blocked by our absolute joke of congress, but I bet congress would love Trump. Go figure Trump is a big fan of Vladimir Putin too. I'm not feeling too good about this at all, in fact it makes me scared for our country. Ironic that one of the biggest issues facing us today, climate change, is supposedly going to be in the hands of either Hilary, who is funded by fossil fuel companies, or Trump who flat out denies climate change and is against the environmental protection agency.
Yeah I am really worried about this country. I can't even make a small difference, by trying to convince my parents of any of this stuff. Yeah she'll say "I know you do a lot of research", which means absolutely nothing. It might as well be like putting a report card on the fridge or a pat on the back. It makes me very, very worried.
