There are a lot of problems now, yes. But I think you've got hold of the wrong end of the stick to think it has anything to do with religion or lack thereof.

Religion isn't a "good message" in the first place, it's absolutely disgusting and immoral; at least the abrahamic ones. Christianity is about as sick as things get. It's about blind obedience, and hating yourself. Jesus was the one who brought hell with him. How does it get any worse than that? His message is obey or burn.

We should address the problems we face, but not by assuming everyone is a part of them, and not by associating it with irreligion. People are good to each other mainly because they have empathy. Religion just produces magical explanations as to why we care about other people, and warps it into something sinister. The idea that good can only come from religion is part of the propaganda.
