I do not believe in a god of any sort. However, if a god or the God suddenly appeared before me (or I had enough compelling physical and factual evidence of a god) I would likely begin believing in that god. (i.e. I'm walking down the street. I think to myself "there is no God"...and all of a sudden Jesus drops down from heaven and begins talking to me. I would likely submit and dare not to challenge his authroity unless I was not totally convinced in some way.)
So is that just being a normal atheist?? Or being completely drunk? Or both?
Yep.
That is atheism. Pure and simple.
Most of us are atheists because of the lack of demonstrable evidence to support the claim that a god exists.
If I was presented with a convincing case that a god did exist, I would no longer be an atheist.
But unlike you, I would not submit. If the Bible is an accurate representation of the Christian god, I would not want anything to do with such a god. Could he punish me? Sure, he would have the power. But I would be punished knowing that I was morally superior than the Biblical god character.
The worst of all possible worlds, is one where the Abrahamic god did exist.
You'd believe if you just opened your heart" is a terrible argument for religion. It's basically saying, "If you bias yourself enough, you can convince yourself that this is true." If religion were true, people wouldn't need faith to believe it -- it would be supported by good evidence.
