I don't see why he wouldn't have.
Bottom line is, these people cared about the gorilla way more than any of us, and understand his behaviorism way more than any of us. I'm sure if there was anything else they could have done to preserve his life without furthering endangering the little boy, they would have. It's silly to see people completely removed from the situation who don't know anything about gorillas and who didn't even love that one, saying things like "well, they should have done such and such instead...."
