I must admit, when I first heard the story, my first response was to feel infuriated at the mom. I even went on a bit of a rant on a facebook friend's post, about how much of an idiot the mom was... as I have a super soft spot for animals. But now, I just feel bad for her. She's getting so much crap, and even death threats. Apparently, this is something that happened really quick. In the perfect world, her eyes would have been glued to the child at all times, but no one is perfect, and one moment of bad judgement shouldn't subject anyone to so much hateful backlash. I think it is very possible it could have happened to anyone. I think watching her child being dragged around by a 450 lbs gorilla for over 10 minutes was punishment enough for her.
"Of course, everyone will claim they respect someone who tries to speak the truth, but in reality, this is a rare quality. Most respect those who speak truths they agree with, and their respect for the speaking only extends as far as their realm of personal agreement. It is less common, almost to the point of becoming a saintly virtue, that someone truly respects and loves the truth seeker, even when their conclusions differ wildly."
