We don't thank your god for cancer, do we?
The point is that this lady thanking god for saving her child ignores the fact that your god had the power to ensure that the child was never in danger at all. "Douchey" is a strong word for my taste, but think you're taking the insult personally and ignoring the broader point.
The rivers are full of crocodile nasties
And He who made kittens put snakes in the grass
He's a lover of life but a player of pawns
Yes, the King on His sunset lies waiting for dawn
To light up His Jungle as play is resumed
The monkeys seem willing to strike up the tune

This is a form of "counting the hits." Crediting your god with the good stuff and never looking at the tumors or predators or virii that he made. When you do that before crediting the folks who did the heavy lifting, it doesn't come across well. God had nothing on the line -- nothing. I mean, he could resurrect the gorilla if that was his loss, the child should the child have died -- hell, he resurrected himself according to your dogma.
Long story short: if this unfolded according to your god's plan, what is the point of thanking him? He's gonna do what he damned well pleases, and we humans had ought to shut up and take it, for better or worse.
"Douchey" to thank him? I don't think so. Thoughtless? You bet your ass.
