LoTR is taken seriously because of the strong characters and story, where as Avatar isn't because it's basically just a bunch of eye candy with a basic plot about colonialism bad and environmentalism good. Star Trek on the other hand is taken very seriously because of, well, the commentary, philosophy, science, and utopian outlook of the future. Where as Twilight is hated because it's a sappy chick flick. |
