When I was going to be confirmed Protestant little over 22 years ago, I told my mum that I'm an atheist, and she sighed a little and said, come on, it's a family tradition and we've already decided on the cakes. Cakes are arguably the bigger deal in my family than religion. So I got confirmed, the pastor knowing pretty much what I thought of the affair, which made it kind of funny. No biggie, you can just do it if you want to avoid conflict. It doesn't mean anything after all - except that in some countries like Germany, you get automatically deducted your Church tax

We'd have to know more about your background to judge whether rebelling is worth it.
