My point is, they always tend to evade blame for unpopular decisions they helped initiate by creating the illusion of doing their best, but couldn't compete with the big bad EU. And hardly anyone bothers to look who's actually being the EU.
We have that here, on this very board. People considering the EU as some big bad overlord instead of the trivial fact that it's the sum of the national politicians.

I've lived in Germany and Switzerland and, from my experience, your first point could describe any politician in the EU and in no way is that a British phenomenon.
