It almost never happens. I don't think I have ever seen a thread locked because of it in all my time here. If necessary the thread can be split and the old one can be locked. I honestly don't see a reason to be uber concerned about it. The only time I see necro-posting as a problem is when someone goes around necro-ing 1500 old threads just to be annoying. A thread here and there isn't hurting anyone.
