I'm heading down to Florida for a week of relaxation anyway so yeah, we can pick this up later. This thread is really about Zen Buddhism anyway, so it's kind of a derail. A little bit.
I do think there's value in that kind of meditation if you're a phenomenology geek. Not that I don't think there can be some therapeutic value in it; I've had some insights to come from meditating that have helped me. I can see that as something that'll vary from person to person, though, and I haven't kept up with the state of research into it.
Anyway, I think meditation reinforces what Dennett's observed about consciousness: that explaining it isn't about explaining just one thing. It's a lot of explanations.
