No, no. The parties are as different as night and day. All you have to do is look at their respective platforms to see that. Now platforms are nothing more than wish lists but the thought of those conservatard bastards trying to enact theirs is frightening.
What would happen in a European country where the prime minister did not have a majority?
Minority governments are quite common in Europe. There are two possibilities when there's no majority after an election either a formal coalition (the favoured route in Ireland), or an informal confidence and supply arrangement where the biggest group rules but is constrained by the fact that the opposition groups have enogh votes to collapse the goverment if it tries to ram through something nobody else wants.
Minority and coalition governments have worked quite well under parliamentarys systems.
