I feel like it's less about saying "this shit does not happen to white and/or wealthy people" and more "it's a hell of a lot less likely to happen to white and/or wealthy people"
It's also certain beneficial things that, if it happens, it'll happen to a white person. The Stanford rapist (who is white and from a wealthy family) has received 3 months in jail for rape, while simultaneously, there are thousands of black and/or Hispanic men in jail for years, life even sometimes, just for drug offenses. The Stanford rapist isn't even an isolated incident, it's just another in a long list of "affluenza" sufferers, people who are excused because the "loss of reputation is punishment enough", or merely fired from their jobs after un-lawfully killing on the job with no further punishment.
Is the system fair? No. If examples like this don't tell you that there's such thing as wealth and race privilege in The USA then I don't really know what will.
Personally I do think wealth privilege trumps race privilege (and increasingly so as we move into the 21st Century) but that doesn't suddenly undo centuries of racial oppression.

"Ironically like the nativist far-Right, which despises multiculturalism, but benefits from its ideas of difference to scapegoat the other and to promote its own white identity politics; these postmodernists, leftists, feminists and liberals also use multiculturalism, to side with the oppressor, by demanding respect and tolerance for oppression characterised as 'difference', no matter how intolerable." - Maryam Namazie
