Yep. Here's what 90% don't understand: we are paid for our value, not for our work.
What's the value of a guy who can use a nail gun, or screw on a car door? Not that much, really.
Our problem is our efficiency: really, anyone who can afford to put a system in place can basically wind up that system and watch in generate big bucks. Anyone who can't is for the most part unlikely to be necessary enough to pull in big dollars. Not wanting to pay someone more than they're really worth is seen by many as "taking my job." But nobody really owes anybody a job.
So the question is-- can we find a way to make the entire population useful? The only way to do that, I think, is war. Because in war, more is better: the more bombs, planes, whatever you can build, the better you'll do. There's no limit on the number of factories, and the number of workers, needed. Either that, or a world-wide mission to destroy an incoming meteor, or to populate mars, or something epic like that.
