Yeah, anecdotes, but I had an experience where I saw my therapist while manic and it rubbed off on her and she went out and impulse bought two leather chairs for her therapy space. Damn comfortable chairs, too. She jokingly blames me for the $1500 expense. I told her that the money I've paid her for the last 8 years more than covers it. Plus, write it off, yo.
I don't think there's any magic involved, but I do think the people we surround ourselves with can have a significant effect on mood. I'm not aware of any science that backs up that belief, however.
