"Redneck"? Liberals do exist in red states too, just not in greater numbers than right wingers. My friend John from Oklahoma is a "redneck" who is a liberal both socially and economically and not one bigoted bone in his body. Some of those Trump supporters can be and are from trust fund families like he came from himself. 

I think on average worldwide, xenophobia is geographical, the more open and urban or suburban a place is the more diverse. But the more closed a society is or homogeneous it is, the more fear of outsiders their is. The more rural and homogeneous the more xenopobia on average.

But liberal "Rednecks" exist too. Willie Nelson and Dolly Parton as far as I know socially are liberals. My mom raised me in Northern Va outside of DC, she still has a history of voting republican and she raised me in a very diverse society growing up. My street was less diverse, but Fairfax County and Alexandria are right next to DC which has been an international magnet.
