I wish there was a good TV drama about a writer. So far, Californication is the best there is, but that's in short comedy form.
I always felt that part of Castle's problem was that it was PG-rated show about homicide. Kind of hard to have a gritty, realistic crime drama when you have to tone down the violence for all your 12-year-old viewers. That being said, I thought the story-telling/character development was pretty decent (within its rating limitations) in the first 4 or so seasons, and the leads gave some powerful and poignant moments I'll always remember. (That Hanger scene with the beautiful, blue lighting). I applauded showrunner A. Marlow for taking that brave leap bringing the two of them together romantically. It was done in a way that was very satisfying for the fans, IMO.
But alas, it was all downhill after that. Instead of telling new stories they just repeated the same old tropes they'd already used before the leads were a couple. E.g. 'A new, sexy detective comes on board to help with a case. Will jealousy threaten Castle and Beckett's relationship?!'
Snooze.
Here endeth my Castle rant. [emoji39]
