Quote:In addition to a torn meniscus, Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson also has a torn lateral collateral ligament, a source told ESPN's Adam Schefter and Jeff Darlington.
Peterson will have surgery Thursday morning to repair the torn meniscus, the team announced Wednesday. Peterson, who was injured Sunday, told ESPN's Josina Anderson that he has a "bucket handle tear" of the meniscus, which typically has a minimum recovery time of three to four months.

Coach Mike Zimmer is not so pessimistic, but it's looking a lot like Peterson will be out for the season.
Can a team lose two stars and still compete? I guess we'll see this Sunday when the Vikings' reserve backs face the Carolina defense. By all accounts, in Sam Bradford, we've got a "just okay" quarterback, and now we're depending on "just okay" running backs. Our newly revamped offensive line appears to be struggling. Can we win games with a good defense, and a so-so everything else? I'm hopeful that Bradford can produce in Minnesota unlike he has in the past, but I also think we'll be facing a long season filled with a lot of lost games. Is 8-8 a reasonable expectation now? Dare anyone hope for 10 or more wins? I don't know. It seems the team's entire future is up in the air.
