Maybe this is the right strategy. Maybe the answer to the Great Question is that there is no answer, so stop asking. Why do I go surfing, then, and why do I finish my PhD? I guess there isn't a "why." I do those things because I live. Asking questions about meaning only takes me down to meaninglessness.
And interestingly, a lot of people who did things that have been lauded as "meaningful" were never trying to do anything meaningful.
