The problem with your logic, and I use that term generously, is that the majority of wars over resources were still started by religionistas.
If materialism is an atheist thing, why do believers indulge in it so much?
Saudis, for example, execute peacful protesters and invest in terror groups, because koran has so much sanctioned by God brutality.
Koran is geared towards war, no questions there. But what about NT Bible, it has so many verses about compassion. Hindu "bible" is all about compassion as well. And Buddhism praises it as the most valuable thing. Those verses about compassion should inspire good people instead of warmongers for the most part.
