The tale is always the same.
Something happens, there will be danger. Yes, there's danger, but the tales of be afraid, be very afraid were always used to chip away at another bit of our civil liberties. As long as we're ruled by forces that can be called democrats, however much I despise them, it's a nuisance. But if we get our very own Orbans or Kaczynskis, it's a clear and present danger for everyone opposing the regime. And that's a very real possibility in some of our countries.
I have to say I'm more afraid of some wannabe dictator taking over than I am of some nebulous terrorist threat. Maybe because I've grown up with terror. Maybe because I value my liberties more than the ghost of security.
