Theology is the application of philosophy and science to mythology. Religion is the product that is sold to the masses. Mythologers create the materials from which theologians earn their bread, using the knowledge discovered and gathered by philosophers and scientists, and then "interpreting" the myths for the purposes of religion. Yet, to the masses, who perceive mostly the mythology, and some rudimentary claims of theology -- which, at the end of the day, exists solely to justify the myths -- the myth often looks much different; the theologian and the religious or mythologist resemble each other in basic concepts, but apply them to reality on a spectrum that extends from extremely literal to completely metaphorical; but those devils are in the details, which are often lost to the masses in theological balderdash.
