Hmm... original sin. I have to go back to my Catholic brainwashing days to answer this.
Apparently God thought it would be a good idea to put a tree with magical fruit in the middle of the Garden of Eden but didn't want Adam & Eve to eat from it. Which any of us with kids knows that if you don't want them to get into something, you keep it out of their reach. But a talking snake told Eve to go for it, and even though God knew, being omniscient and all, that they would eat from it, he got pissed anyway. So he then cursed the snake and took away its legs, then made childbirth painful and kicked Adam & Eve out of the Garden. Then he saw fit to put a curse called "original sin" on every single human born after that event. So all humans need to be "saved" from this original sin that we didn't have anything to do with and happened before any of us were ever born, so apparently the only way to be saved from it is to be baptized and accept Jesus as personal savior. Why God couldn't just decide to forgive everyone for this crime they never committed isn't clear, but apparently it's impossible and we have to go through the whole process of Jesus worship because the first two humans fucked up. Oh, and apparently women are inferior to men because Eve ate the fruit first and then gave some to Adam.
As for why it's fair of God to punish us all for what they did, you'd have to ask a Christian that. I think it was Statler Waldorf I was having a discussion with on one of these threads about this very issue. Apparently, since God makes all the rules it's fair of him to punish all humans for what the first two humans ever did, even though he knew they would do it in the first place. And apparently it's also fair for people who live in places where nobody's ever heard of Christianity to go to hell because they've never been cleansed of this original sin. I think "might makes right" is the term I'm looking for. But we're not to question God's wisdom because we're just pathetic, evil little creatures who deserve to be horribly punished for eternity for things we never did just because we had the audacity to be born. That is, unless you join the magical club with the magical water which apparently washes orginal sin right off your skin. Then you get to act like an arrogant prick because you don't have to worry about that sin any more. But even then, we're all just disgusting, evil, little vermin who deserve the most horrendous tortures God can give us just because he made us. But he loves us and wants us to worship him!

Christian apologetics is the art of rolling a dog turd in sugar and selling it as a donut.
