What was not weird back then is that at the same time Jesus was learning and playing god his sister(s) was wiping floors, was not allowed to have any kind of education and could only look onto bleak future and Jesus didn't give a shit. Women these days and for many centuries ahead were pretty much slaves. Maybe that's why the loudest christian activists and even here on this forum are white males, because they want to have the world they once had when they could pick any random woman and throw her on the floor and yell "Wipe it!". That's why they don't care for the evidence that diminish existence of any god and will forever be desperately clinging to hallucinations, imagination to "prove" that god exists.
teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"
