When he seemed to be ignorant of what I blind trust was, that seemed genuine.
But when it comes to this, I think he knows exactly what he is doing. He can pretend day and night that he doesn't understand how it's a conflict of interest but he knows that there is already a line outside of his door and he knows what those people want and the only thing left to do is negotiate a price. And when Trump calls himself a negotiator, this is what he has in mind. If he's not a real billionaire now, he will be in four years.
If the worst thing that happens is him fleecing the American people for billions and billions of dollars, I'll consider us extremely fortunate.
And it's true, he doesn't have to create a blind trust for his assets. He's not legally required to do so. Of course it's highly unethical, but that word may not even exist for at least the next four years.
Trump: is it illegal to do X?
Advisor: No, but it is considered highly unethical
Trump: Fantastic! Then do it.
