I don't believe he seriously thinks we've never heard of these goons.

What's really sad is if they took the effort they put into trying to sell their shit to the gullible unwashed and channelled it into something truly productive, they might actually contribute to furthering human knowledge instead of draining it, and maybe they would finally earn the respect that they demand from the scientific community.
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist.  This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair.  Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second.  That means there's a situation vacant.'
