It turns out shit when a team has a great couple of years like SF , builds a stadium, and then proceeds to go right back to sucking ass.
Meanwhile, Dallas, New York, Minnesota, and Indianapolis all have new stadia and you don't hear a lot of complaints.
My team is as embroiled in Pittsburgh as you can be. The Rooneys have been in Pittsburgh for over a hundred years and are as much a fabric of that city as anyone could be.
There were protests against both Yankee Stadium and Citi Field because of the bullshit involved in the financing. The protests were quashed by the cops and ignored by the media and the rich whores who made a killing off it.
Widely proclaimed that the Mets and Yanks were paying for their own stadiums themselves the fact is that they are paying off tax free municipal bonds and getting off on the real estate taxes for the property the stadiums sit on and city sales taxes. In addition, the taxpayers got stuck paying for infrastructure improvements....which included indoor parking garages so rich fucks wouldn't have to get their cars wet.
These things are a tad more complicated than one would get listening to the press releases.
By the way, the politicians trumpeted that Yankee Stadium would create 6,500 construction jobs ( over the 4 year process ) and 1,000 "permanent" jobs.... doing such things as selling hot dogs 82 days out of the year.
