What you stated was to call it Southern American food or southern food.
But you might call it southern American food while there's someone in south America who doesn't like that food and run into the same problems you're against relating to the term "Chinese food." Same goes for southern food. Not every person from South America or the south eats that food.
But there is no racial, ethnic, connotations it's what people in certain region of north America white black whatever eat it's not tied to one group or one culture or weather all eat said food it's food that happens to originate from that region
Example Ontario pork is pork raised in Ontario it's not Black White Asian it's pork from a region see the difference
