Over time, I discarded The Tooth Fairy, The Easter Bunny, Santa Claus and god (in that order). It sometimes takes a while, but it eventually gets to a point for many of us when reality just sinks in.
I think that Theists tend to forget that many, if not most, Atheists were once believers. When as a little kid I first starting having doubts about the veracity of religion, I wasn't even aware that one was 'allowed' to disbelieve. Perhaps Theists should consider that many Atheist "douche-bags" were once just like them and then ask themselves 'what made them change their minds'???
