Here's the thing. I think the belief that Buddha is a God and that Mohammed spoke to an angel is 100% false. I wouldn't mind being critical of those beliefs, and I don't mind other people being critical of those beliefs. But I would never compare those beliefs to beliefs in the tooth fairy. And I would not be ok with other people doing so, either.
While I think Buddha being a God is as false as the existence of the tooth fairy, believing in Buddha doesn't make someone a messed up, childish, stupid person in our society. Believing in the tooth fairy, does.
So if I tell a Buddhist, or a Muslim, that their beliefs are equal to belief in tooth fairies, I am essentially calling them crazy/stupid/childish/messed up. That is absolutely an insult to their character.

"Of course, everyone will claim they respect someone who tries to speak the truth, but in reality, this is a rare quality. Most respect those who speak truths they agree with, and their respect for the speaking only extends as far as their realm of personal agreement. It is less common, almost to the point of becoming a saintly virtue, that someone truly respects and loves the truth seeker, even when their conclusions differ wildly."
