Well, one can't think of isolated HHS bands moving into Europe as following any kind of coherent plan. They would actually have been at a disadvantage as HNS would have known the terrain much better than the newcomers. I don't know that bones and rocks will ever give us the answer to that particular question. I suspect some difference in the birth rate between the groups could be a big part of the answer.
