at an apartment of mine many years ago, the single handled kitchen sink faucet element failed in an interesting way, allowing the hot and cold supplies to mingle.
This failure mode was detectable when the toilet tank filled with hot water, and a subsequent #2 in the unit occurred soon enough that the tank had not cooled to ambient for an ASTONISHING magnification of the poo smell.
