Gotta kudos team trump (TT) for their strategy on this one....
Select the tax return where trump has paid the most tax (doesn't matter if is was under some rule that he wants to abolish, no big surprise on that), and 'leak' it anonymously to a media outlet. Said outlet really have no option but to make a big deal out of it (it's an exclusive after all) even if the content is underwhelming. Meanwhile since it wasn't released officially TT don't have to answer questions on why it wasn't the full return, or from 12 years ago, the media outlet ends up looking ridiculous, republicans can scream 'see - he did pay tax' and accuse democrats of baseless assertions, fence-sitters will be placated and attention is deflected temporarily from obamacare and the travel ban.
