So I thought I'd share about my favorite breakfast, steel cut oatmeal and fruit.

This is what steel cuts oats looks like bought in bulk.
And this is a cup serving cooked. I cook 2 cups of oats with 8 cups of water and a little salt for 20 minutes at low roil after it starts to boil. We keep it in the fridge and get breakfast for two for four days out of it.
Then I cut up a quarter cup each of several kinds of fruit along with a quarter cup of walnut pieces and a generous pinch of raisins. Here I've got pineapple, black berries, mango and blueberries.
This is me and the furry kids at the end of a hike we took early this morning in San Francisco at Fort Funston beach.

After walking for a couple miles down to and along the beach we climbed up into the cliffs above and finished by climbing this hill up what is called a sand ladder, basically telephone pole sections strung by cables set in sand.
Gratuitous photo of the fur babies frolicking on the beach.
I find exercise more enjoyable combined with natural beauty the same way I enjoy my measured cup of oats more smothered in good fruit and nuts. Neither feels like any kind of deprivation. One bad thing I did this morning was having a cup of coffee and a scone on the drive over to the beach. Didn't need it after the oatmeal but hopefully I worked off some of those frivolous calories.
