Okay, snacks. Fewer the better. Trying not to eat except when hungry but ..
My favorite pick me up snack when I'm at home is a pinch of raisins with a pinch of walnuts. If I know I'm going to stretch the gap between meals and I'll be out, I try to bring a nice big apple - something special like a Pink Lady or Jazz. But the place I really waste calories is cookies with tea, which I have several times a day. (I don't use any sugar but I prefer half and half so not so cheap calorie wise.) I've got ones that aren't too special (and are very low cal) lying around so that they'll just suffice, not be something I hanker for. For that kind of foolishness I walk to the local coffee shop and get one their big peanut butter cookies or a banana & chocolate chip scone along with a cup of coffee. (I do better with coffee since I prefer it black.) Even with the mediocre cookies I try to practice mindful eating so I'll usually just have three thin wafers but take tiny bites and really tune into the flavor to stretch them out over the whole cup of tea.
Boy Shell, if I was a writer I'd have such a hard time controlling my snacking. My hat is off to you. When I was teaching and had a bag of exams to get through I was really bad about using snacks as rewards.
In Rik's case, surprisingly little. But that's okay he claims he isn't using it to maintain his consciousness.
