In regards to loudness wars stuff
I tend to take advantage of any headroom I have and my stuff is pretty loud. Sometimes I use compression to bring up the volume when i do raspy half screaming aggotech vocals. Some of it would be incomprehensible without it because of what the voice naturally does when you do that.
