The insult comes from your incorrect assumption about what atheism is, the hubris to attribute your assumption to what we believe, and your arrogance in assuming we haven't rationally considered your argument before.
It's as if one of us came to a christian forum, posted a nonsense version of christian belief, and expected you to take it seriously. I suspect there would be offense taken to that.
If you seriously want to have an honest, rational debate, then start with a premise that isn't a strawman argument.
