Just the fact that they live in opulent palaces, knowing Jesus had no love for wealth in the bible, shows how quickly christianity fell away from the source. The bible gives examples of people going to hell specifically because they were rich, or because they had a good life on earth. Unfortunately you kind of need money and power if you want your religion to spread in the first place. Seems like a catch 22.
