Pope Francis condemns child sex abuse and Church cover-ups

Pope Francis has condemned the "atrocities" of child sex abuse and clerical cover-ups in a letter to the world's 1.2bn Roman Catholics.
The letter to "the People of God" calls for an end to the "culture of death" in the Church, addresses failures to deal with abuse and asks for forgiveness.
Last week a grand jury report detailed seven decades of abuse in Pennsylvania.
The landmark investigation found more than 1,000 identifiable minors had been abused by 300 priests in the US state.
Thousands more are thought to have fallen victim. The inquiry found evidence of systematic cover-ups by the Church, with many cases now too old for prosecution.
After the report was made public, the Vatican said the Pope was on the side of victims against "predator" priests.

But, really, what needs to happen is:

An extension of the statute of limitations in these cases
The RCC to put its money where its mouth is and open its books up to investigators... something tells me that it's not just a RCC in the US problem

Otherwise, given the organization's track record, unbelievable emergency PR.

Why?  All he's doing is running his fucking mouth which is all he did the other times.  When he directs his lawyers and lobbyists to drop the campaigns against statute of limitations extensions, turns pervert priests and their enabling bishops, archbishops and cardinals over to the civil authorities for real punishment and sells his gold fucking throne to compensate the victims THEN he will be doing something that could cause him a problem.

Right now.  It's just the same old catholick bullshit.

I would honestly expect him to last a good long while. He has natural charisma and his public persona is that of a fun, kooky grandfather figure. He's the perfect figurehead to distract the masses with. I mean, there's a reason why he succeeded Darth Sideous.

He's a PR shill who tells whatever audience he's talking to what he thinks they want. Over here in the west he's all "hate the sin, love the sinner", in the Philippines he was "kill all gays".
