It is sad people cling to this old mythology. Even in polytheism back then, loyalty to the ruling class did not allow for dissent so if you didn't obey the warrior class or the royalty you lived under, you would pay.
I do not consider myself property to be bullied never to question. If someone wants me to worship such an asshole nope sorry. In modern reality I chose who leads me and they need my consent first. In the west we have the power to challenge and even remove leaders we deem unfit.
