Nah, that's not it at all. In its simplest sense of the word, he was a traitor. You don't see any statues of Jefferson Davis in DC?

Even if that is true.. Does that matter? It almost makes it worse that he couldn't be bothered to stand up for what he thought was right regarding slavery.
