This is just pure ignorant nonsense. Do you think if there were still statues of Goebbles and Rommel and Hitler in today's Germany Jews would go, "Oh well, leave the statues up because it is part of German history". No? That is how blacks feel about statues of men who wanted to keep slavery.
Well 1, the civil war was not fought over freeing the slaves. I can produce a link to a letter where Lincoln Pleads with Jefferson Davis to end this fighting in 100 days or He will in fact free all slaves which Lincoln hope would cause riots in the menless homes of the southern soldiers. Gotta remember only the abolitionist wanted to free the slaves. Lincoln was NOT an abolitionist. That is why he waited till the point where the north was going to loose the war before the slaves were freed. Before then he hesitated because many in the north did not want freed slaves. the only way he was permitted to free the slaves was to send them all back to Africa, or use them to colonize the Caribbean and central/south America.
Lincoln in his letter admitted not caring one way or the other about the fate of the slaves, that he would see them bound for 1000 years if it meant this war be over, or he would see them freed if again the war could end. The south refused and Lincoln relented and freed the slaves because he need the warm bodies to fill out blue uniforms and to cause a war on two fronts. one with grant headed south and the slaves revolting at Home. it worked. If lincoln was allowed to live he would have had to make good on his promises to shipp all black slaves out of the country. Yet we do see him as a great american hero do we not? If you do not believe me look up the origins of Liberia
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Back-to-Africa_movement. It was the Start (by lincoln) to send slaves back to Africa.
The Whole war was fought because Slaves were not going to be allowed west of the Mississippi. The North was being swamped by 'white immigrants' and the idea was to ship them west to settle out there farm and make a living filling out the land.. But south white democrats decided that they were simply going to expand their plantations west which would put the home steaders out of business. (This Influx of Whites is also the reason many did not want freed slaves in the north and subsequently why the idea was to ship them back to africa.)
And yet we have monuments to these guys. No more tolerance to black people, and a southern white man would have to chattel just on the right side of pop culture's retelling of history...
This would make an honest man then ask if the North was not out to protect the black man from southern white farmers then what was the role of the confederacy?
In the beginning our founding fathers envisioned 13 nation states independent from one another free to do what the people of that region willed to do. Which is why they Gave the federal government such a small roll. (meaning to come together to defend the colonys and to provide and establish commerse between states and other nations) Jefferson Davis wanted to keep this minimalist government Lincoln represented centralized more powerful government where the federal mandates trumped what people wanted on a state level.
Much like now, most people lived in cities meaning very few states held the majority of the voting power. The southern state felt like you douche bags who don't know or understand histroy feel when trump got elected. but imagine 20 years of loosing every vote every election.. You a-holes loose one election and the state of Ca wants to suceed.
Quote:No sorry if you know and accept slavery as being wrong, you do not get to equate those fighting bigotry as being the same as bigots. And here is point 2. If you support anti protestors who bring clubs and shield inmass to strike unarmed "bigots"... Then truly who is the bigot?
Not everyone there was a bigot. there are alot of history buff that also support the preservation of historical monuments because it is important to remember history the way it was and not the way it wants to be. Those people had their permits and the right to be there as per our right to free speech and protest.
Meanwhile in the socialist camp, intolerant people armed themselves to literally attack unarmed protesters... Let's stop there and define the word bigot:big·ot
/ˈbiɡət/
noun
1. a person who is intolerant toward those holding different opinions:
So how much more intolerance can one have than to cause physical harm to another? Remember it was the radical left who came armed with clubs and shields. (literally walking in the foot steps of the confederacy and ironically completely oblivious to it. history repeating itself. because you dumb asses make up your own history about the north ans south and ignore what has been documented)
Quote:The counter protesters were not bringing firearms to the rally, the Nazi supporters and KKK MEMBERS DID!Bwahahaha... hey retard how many people were shot??? Nun, mo-Ron. The nazi guys simply told their people do whatever you have to do to defend yourself. bring whatever you have to bring to defend yourself.

You are either on the right side of history or you are not. Pull you fucking head out of your ass.
The reason keeping reminders of the confederacy around are three fold. 1) so as to not villify americans who do not think or feel as we do. that it is ok for some to have differing opinions about how thy should live life and we should live in a large enough place to allow that to happen.
2) the greater/majority should not force choke the minority on their self righteousness or values or we could cause another great divide or rift in the fabric of this nation
3) the most import reason we should keep our monuments is because no matter which side of the conflict these men all died american heros... not the bullshit meaning of the word where everyone who's job is to know to work a fire extinguisher is a hero, but battle tested fought and died hero defending these united states no matter which side of the conflict they were on, because like it or not without that conflict we would not be who we are today. with out these monuments we will all to quickly forget who we are and where we comfrom leaving us open to become that in which we 'have no tolerance for.'
If you can see these confederates as being american Hero's for fight for the constitution and what they believed it's meaning was... then you are already showing the level of intolerance and self righteousness that had us fight each other to begin with. And if you are there it is because you did not learn the lesson these heros fought and died to provide you.
