The interesting difference between Germany and Japan for me is der Fragge, The Questionnaire, which sorted out the sheep from the goats. Japan didn't have that, because everybody was behind the Emperor, by a huge percentage. So Germans were separated into "good" and "bad", but not the Japanese. I think that shows in the relative attitudes toward the war that we see today in the two countries.
