I've heard you Americans mention potluck more than once so I thought I'd look it up.
It's a very interesting idea, I wish we could do that here. :-)

I would've guessed the concept of everyone "bringing a dish" would be somewhat universal.

I myself don't normally care to participate in such events; especially in the workplace. But that's because I'm aware of the fact that a number of my co-workers are dumb, mean and/or gross. A couple of years back, we had several get severe diarrhea after sampling Some Chick's macaroni salad. Not the Thena, though.

Anything with mayo is an automatic no-go, in my book. 

Lol...And, If I know someone's a Crazy Cat Lady, that's a no-go as well.
