The AI isn't lackluster anymore. It can lure boars and Barbarian AI on Userpatch can steal your boar with a scout...
I can only beat Barbarian AI sometimes. It's like 1750 rated or some shit.
Even the basic AoE2 HD AI is wayyyy more advanced and destroys the original AI (which is still available under"Original AI" instead of "AI.") But I can still pwn that easy on hardest.

I'm one of those dudes who plays someone who is new to online and when they resign the entire map is covered in my buildings and units and I have taken all the resources and was at 200 population limit ages ago and they are like "How?!?!?" The blissful thing about it is not that I'm very good at the game...... I'm not. I'm average for an online player. I have like 101 wins and 99 losses on rated.No, the blissful thing about it is I remember reacting exactly the same way when I'd resign when I started out and I remember thinking "I'll never be that good." Now I am "that good" I realize I'm just average
