I think it's just as useful to look at the Catholic Church's attitude towards Hitler. Toland quotes Pius XII as commenting about Barbarossa, the invasion of the USSR, as "high-minded gallantry in defense of the foundation of Christian culture." The Church, knowing his crimes against humanity, never acted to excommunicate him.

Hopefully you'll provide Catholic criticism of his actions, particularly before 1943 when his defeat was apparent. Certainly his many public violations should have garnered such criticism. Why was your church so silent in the face of such evil? "The world wonders ..."
