Sure to see what Christians invented in the meantime because in the Bible there is no family values to speak of and needles to say women are very suppressed. Like the Christians who now speak how women should go back to what Bible says when it comes to how they should behave in the house and in the church and nothing evokes that like 1 Corinthians 14:34-35 Let your women keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted unto them to speak; but they are commanded to be under obedience, as also saith the law. And if they will learn anything, let them ask their husbands at home: for it is a shame for women to speak in church.
But like you said I should spend time in an evangelical church because currently most evangelical or fundamentalist Christians do not obey these rules for women of 'keeping silent' or 'not teaching.' Many Christian women have large ministries and teach and preach the Bible on television or are pastors of their own churches, so yeah there must be some new Bible going around since it's obvious that "The Bible" teaching is irrelevant for life today.
In every society it's man's duty to protect his wife and children. Children are expected to obey their parents whilst they remain living within the family home at least until they reach adulthood. But when it comes to The Bible teachings it means women are not to be educated and all decisions are to be made by the husband.
Of course The Bible is not a good guidance for marriage for other reasons because, firstly, Jesus was not married and did not care for married life like Matthew 10:34-36 or Luke 14:26 or Luke 12:51-52. And also when it comes to OT it's even worse for today's marriage because most of the marriages in OT were polygamous.
