Sodom was the buttsex town; Gomorrah was oral. (that's a bad joke but it's always stuck with me) It's unfortunate that in the 1980's some people started to use the term sodomy to refer specifically to anal sex. The sins of Sodom were wide ranging. So its value as a proof-text against homosexuality is limited. A closer reading reveals that the sin of Sodom was "all of the above." The men at Lot's door were representative of the widespread wickedness corrupting the entire city, not one particular sin. We have to look beyond Genesis to other texts that mention Sodom to get a real sense of what all is included in their wickedness - the list includes adultery, arrogance, gluttony, and injustice for the poor.
